How do you approach it…

I read a blog post earlier today about ones approach to business.

At business school this guy was taught to do ‘as it little as possible’ in order to achieve ones objective, to spend as little money, time, resources on a project in order to achieve the goal at maximum profit.

Very businesslike, but isn’t it missing the bigger picture?

Of course the opposite approach to this would be to go out of your way to do everything possible and massively impress your client, but does this affect the bottom line, is that good for business and is it even noticed by your client?

How do you approach it…?

I guess the obvious answer would be to draw a line perfectly between to the two, minimising wasted time and effort whilst maybe hitting above the expectation of the client or indeed manager who you may report to, but is this possible and do you set out to do this?

Personally, I believe that sustainable business is built on providing a great service and building strong relationships on that back of that hard work. It’s a competitive industry I work in so going out of your way to do things that others wouldn’t is probably the right approach, and certainly something I strive to achieve.

Did anyone really get anywhere by doing ‘just enough’…?
